Installing and configuring the Podcast plugin your OpenVix box

This tutorial will describe how to add and configure the Podcast plugin to your OpenViX installation.

To install the Podcast plugin click the following:

Menu - Plugins. Then click the "Green" button to download additional plugins. Navigate to "Extensions" and search for a plugin called "Podcast" click this plugin to install it.

Once installed create a file called "podcasts.xml" in the following location:

OPENVIX_IP_ADDRESS/etc/podcast/podcasts.xml

Replace the obvious placeholder name (OPENVIX_IP_ADDRESS) with your OpenVix IP Address.

The contents of the file should look like this:

From the main screen of your OpenVix installation click the "Blue" button to access your installed plugins. Here you will see the plugin "Podcast", click that and you will see the podcasts listed from the file above. Selecting this plugin will display the podcasts configured in the "podcasts.xml" file above.

Adding network shares to your OpenVix box

This tutorial will describe how to add network shares (shared folders on your network) to your OpenViX installation.

All OpenViX network shares are stored in a file called "automounts.xml" which can be found here:

OPENVIX_IP_ADDRESS/etc/enigma2/automounts.xml

Replace the obvious placeholder name (OPENVIX_IP_ADDRESS) with your OpenVix IP Address.

See the example below of how network share(s) will look inside the "automounts.xml" file. The example below displays 2 network shares:

Replace the obvious placeholder names (IP_ADDRESS_OF_NETWORK_SERVER, VUDUO_NAME_DISPLAYED_IN_LOCATIONS, NETWORK_SHARE_NAME, NETWORK_USERNAME, NETWORK_PASSWORD) with your network credentials.

In order for your network shares to connect you may need to perform the following:
Reboot your OpenVix box and navigate to:

Menu - Setup - System - Network - Mounts Setup - Mount Manager - Mount Point Manager

Click on a network share and then click the "Green" button to save the share. You maybe prompted the share already exists therefore just click "Yes" to update the existing share.

To view your network shares click the "Planner" button and then click the "Yellow" button to navigate to your locations. Here you should see all the network shares you configured in the "automounts.xml" file above.

Click one of these network shares to browse the contents of that folder.

Changing the default password for your OpenVix box

This tutorial will describe how to alter the default password for your OpenVix installation.

Before we begin the tutorial you must ensure you have downloaded an application called PuTTY which will allow you to Telnet into your OpenVix installation.

The default username and password for your OpenVix box is: root / vuduo.
To update the password for your system please follow the steps below:

Open the PuTTY application and enter the IP Address of your OpenVix box into the "Host Name (or IP address)" section and ensure Telnet is selected as the "Connection type".

Once the details have been entered click "Open".
You will be prompted for a username "root" and the password "vuduo".
To update the password type "passwd" and hit "Enter".
It will then ask you for a new password and for you to confirm the new password:

Type "Exit" and hit "Enter" to exit the PuTTY connection to your OpenVix box.
Your OpenVix box is now secure with your own password!

Enable SlickVPN via OpenVPN on OpenELEC

This tutorial will guide you through configuring a VPN connection on your OpenELEC system via SlickVPN using OpenVPN.

To get started download the following SlickVPN OpenVPN configuration file:
https://www.slickvpn.com/downloads/config/SlickVPN_IAD.ovpn.
We'll use the contents of this file to create the necessary files to connect to SlickVPN. You can open this file within a text editor to view it's contents.

To get OpenVPN running on OpenELEC we need to perform 5 basic steps:

1) Start by creating a file called "SlickVPN-OpenVPN.config" in your OpenELEC network share:

\\OPENELEC_IP_ADDRESS\Configfiles\vpn-config

Add the following to the contents to the file and don't forget to replace the placeholder names: SERVERNAME, SERVER.

3) Create a file called "pass.txt" and add your SlickVPN username and password on separate lines:

Rather than copying the configuration contents below I recommend you copy the contents of the "SlickVPN_IAD.ovpn" file.

Your OpenELEC network share should now look like this:

Within your firewall you will now need to ensure that port 443 is forwarded to your OpenELEC IP Address.
If you're unsure on how to do this you will need to Google how to do this for your specific router!

Reboot OpenELEC and navigate to "System - OpenELEC - Connections" and you will see your "SlickVPN-OpenVPN" VPN listed. Click the connection and then click "Connect".
